Women’s Foundation Appointments Project - Olathe Promotes First Appointee in Kansas

Olathe, Ks – Today, Women’s Foundation and Mayor Michael Copeland announced a new partnership between the City of Olathe and Women’s Foundation Appointments Project. Olathe will be the first city in Kansas to partner with the Appointments Project to see more women appointed to boards and commissions. The Olathe Appointments Project was launched with the appointment of Virginia Nielsen to the Olathe Human Relations Commission.

Women’s Foundation Appointments Project Celebrates 20 Appointments in Kansas City

Kansas City, MO –  Recently, Mayor Sly James announced the appointments of Doniele Carlson to the Platte County MU Extension Council, Lisa Hickok to the Municipal Arts Commission, and Emily Truebner to the Environmental Management Commission. Women’s Foundation promoted these women through the Appointments Project which aims to remove barriers for women to serve in civic leadership positions and increase the number of women serving on boards and commissions so that they are more reflective of the populations they serve.

Kansas City, MO – Governor Jay Nixon recently announced the appointments of Dr. Sarah M. Martin-Anderson to the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts and Jane E. Walton to the Missouri Interior Design Commission. Women’s Foundation promoted both women through the Appointments Project, which recently expanded to statewide openings in Missouri.  The Appointments Project aims to remove barriers for women to serve in civic leadership positions and increase the number of women serving on boards and commissions so that they are more reflective of the populations they serve.

One year ago, at Women’s Foundation, we challenged ourselves to focus on results - to improve the lives of women of all ages. After our research on the Status of Women in Missouri found that Missouri women earn $0.71 for every dollar men earn for the same work, we promised to focus on results for equal pay for equal work.

Equal Pay Executive Order Issued at Women's Foundation Annual Luncheon

Kansas City, MO – Today, the Women’s Foundation capped a year of results for women of all ages as Missouri Governor Jay Nixon signed an executive order to advance equal pay for equal work at their annual luncheon. Mayor Sly James announced a new partnership with the Women’s Foundation to address workplace barriers for women and increase family friendly policies. International icon Arianna Huffington headlined the annual luncheon, inspiring the audience of nearly 1,600 people to lead in their communities.

Study Shows Barriers and Potential Benefits to Gender Integration in the U.S. Army Special Forces

Kansas City, MO – Today, on the eve of Veterans Day, Women’s Foundation released findings from Project Diane, a research study examining the integration of women into military.  Findings from the research, conducted in partnership with the University of Kansas and the Army Research Institute, show significant barriers and potential benefits to gender integration in the U.S. Army Special Forces.
