In partnership with United WE and The Appointments Project®, Rosie will host a civic engagement overview on Wednesday, December 8 as part of its initiative to empower more women to serve in public office and increase the gender diversity of civic boards and commissions. Elected officials rely on recommendations from civic boards and commissions to drive informed policies that arguably have the greatest effect on our day-to-day lives. Members of these boards and commissions are not elected; they are appointed. However, many of these boards function without representation from women.
The free overview will allow women to learn about leadership opportunities and guide them through the process of applying for these positions. Please register in advance to attend.
Started in 2014, the Appointments Project® has successfully placed 170 women on boards and commissions. In addition to increasing gender diversity, the project emphasizes increasing racial equity on civic boards and commissions among women, with women of color representing 34% of applicants.
